Description

Man with Wolves presents a vertical composition dominated by strong contrasts of light and shadow. The surface is divided into solid color fields and textured brushwork, where earthy tones and deep blacks give weight to the lower half while lighter greys and blues open space above. The paint is applied in layered strokes that create both mass and movement, giving the wolves and the central figure a sense of physical presence.

The scene shows a man walking alongside three wolves. The work uses the artist’s own image as a starting point. Their forms emerge from dark passages of paint, partly defined, partly dissolving into the background. This ambiguity gives the impression that the wolves belong as much to the psychological realm as to the physical one. The man’s steady stride and the animals’ proximity suggest both companionship and tension, as if the bond between them is fragile but necessary. The wolves mirror the figure’s inner state: wary, alert, yet bound by an unspoken understanding. His partial exposure, stripped of protective layers, heightens a sense of vulnerability and belonging, as if he is both intruder and native within this untamed world.

This work belongs to the series Tales from the Black Forest, where the artist explores stories, encounters, and tensions within one of Europe’s most emblematic landscapes.

This painting was featured on  the artist’s Solo Show “Hiden treasures: Black Forest through Latin American eyes” at Altes Rathaus in Gernsbach, Germany, in 2021.
