Eruption

This work presents a towering male figure seen from an extreme low angle, a viewpoint that amplifies his physical presence until he feels almost mythic. Painted in oil on panel, the work is dominated by molten reds, glowing ochres and violent bursts of yellow that surge upward behind him like volcanic fire. This chromatic intensity immediately anchors the piece in a primal, elemental register: heat, pressure and raw force.

Formally, the painting thrives on contrast: the smooth modelling of the body against the turbulent, almost flaming background; the cool whites of the cloth against the incandescent tones around it. The brushwork is energetic and directional, reinforcing the sense of upward motion and eruptive release. Light hits the figure from below and behind, giving his torso a sculptural weight while pushing his head into a semi-silhouetted drama.

Within the Archaic series, this piece explores the male body as an emblem of ancestral strength and inner combustion.
