This vibrant oil painting presents a striking scene set on a Flößer — the traditional wooden raft once used in the Black Forest to transport timber along mountain rivers. Rendered in lively, broken brushstrokes and a luminous palette of greens, blues, and yellows, the composition places a doll-like blonde woman at its centre. She stands tall on the raft, bathed in a shaft of golden light formed by an intentional opening in the tree canopy above, a visual device that frames her as a chosen or empowered figure. Around her, four Victorian-style dolls cluster in soft pastels, their poses both delicate and watchful.

The central figure holds a sword, which she uses to subdue the male soldier lying at her feet. This inversion of power — a man of violence disarmed by a woman — becomes the emotional core of the work. The dolls introduce a second layer of meaning: their plastic stillness evokes questions of gender roles, societal expectations, and the tension between innocence and control. Against the lush and expressive forest setting typical of the artist Black Forest works, their artificiality feels deliberate, almost unsettling, pointing to the way narratives of domination, protection, and vulnerability are learned through images and play.
