Tribesman N°2

In this work, the figure stands as a guardian of an ancient settlement, his posture firm and alert against a backdrop of simple timber dwellings. The setting evokes a proto-historic community, stripped to essentials, where survival depends on physical strength and collective resilience.

The man’s body is rendered with vigorous, textural brushstrokes that emphasise musculature shaped not by aesthetics but by labour. His stance—broad, grounded, slightly forward—suggests readiness, a natural authority earned through daily responsibility. The earthy palette intensifies the sense of a life lived outdoors, while the cooler tones in the shadows carve out the weight and volume of his form.

Behind him, the slanted roofs cluster tightly, almost protective, hinting at a rudimentary social order. Their rough geometry contrasts with the organic modelling of the body, underscoring the tension between human vitality and the fragility of early civilisation.

As part of the Archaic series, the painting reflects on primal masculinity, communal roles, and the enduring symbolism of the guardian figure—timeless, rooted, and shaped by the demands of his world.
