Description
Missing presents a horizontal composition where large moss-covered rocks dominate the foreground, their rough surfaces built through thick, layered brushstrokes of green, grey, and earthy tones. Behind them, the vertical rhythm of tree trunks cuts through a misty background, where lighter and more diluted colors create a sense of depth and disorientation. The contrast between the solid mass of stone and the hazy distance sets the emotional register of the work.
The scene shows a young woman crouched at the front, wearing a blue hood, her body language suggesting both vulnerability and exhaustion. In the background, two distant figures, painted in muted tones, seem to wander separately through the fog. Their positions and the space between them create a tension: they appear to be searching, yet they are also disconnected, unable to find either the girl or each other.
The title Missing carries a double meaning: on one hand, it refers to the young woman physically lost in the forest; on the other, it suggests her disconnection from her parents, who are themselves lost in their own search and separation. Inspired by a real case of disappearance during a hike, the painting transforms that story into a broader reflection on loss and disorientation. As part of the series Tales from the Black Forest, the work situates a personal tragedy within the wider theme of human fragility in relation to nature and memory.
